Natural Questions about The Union of Natural Religion Why create the Union of Natural Religion? The Union of Natural Religion has emerged because the old religions have failed. The old religions are doing nothing to support and stimulate people’s spiritual well-being. Individuals are not respected even as human beings, and their Divinity is totally denied. The Divinity of the Earth is denied. Natural Religion has arisen in the vacuum created by the failure of the old religions. When one realizes that all the religions are inherently false, one is thrown back on oneself, to one’s own inherent spirituality or religiousness. Religion really happens in aloneness, between the ineffable Divine and you. Still, we are related to each and need each other is so many ways. The Union of Natural Religion is for those who wish to join with other like-minded and like-hearted people. In this joining, the essentials of religion can be explored, shared, nurtured, and can grow in each of us. What is new about the Union of Natural Religion? Natural Religion is the acknowledgment of everyone’s natural spontaneous religious nature. This is pure religion, in the sense that science is pure. Pure science is the search for objective, material truths. Pure religion is the search for objective truths in the subjective, cosmic realm. Just as there is no separate science for Jews, Christians, Moslems, Hindus, Buddhists, etc., there can be only one religion, one pure religion. Now, we can declare that we are simply religious, purely religious, without prefixes or names. This is Natural Religion. How is Natural Religion different than other religions? Other religions have mythologies that people are told to believe as truth, mythologies so old there can be no verification. Natural Religion has no mythologies and demands no beliefs. Natural Religion emphasizes a direct “knowing” that is in harmony with science. If you don’t know, you can theorize. If you believe, at least understand you don’t really know. Knowing is what it’s all about. Natural Religion doesn’t insist on beliefs. We ask you to wake up. And while people are asleep, we still respect each other and love each other as we would when we are awake. Does Natural Religion Have Commandments? Natural Religion, and the Union of Natural Religion, does not issue orders or commandments, or tell you that you should be different than you are. Your freedom is absolute to think, to feel, to believe. Your freedom to act is absolute, though with freedom comes responsibility, so it is your responsibility to act within the laws of nature and the laws of humans, or face the potential consequences. How many people follow this religion? You don’t follow this religion. The religion follows you. The religion is you. You are your own religion. Each individual is spiritually sovereign, and essentially is a one-person religion. Like fingerprints, spiritual paths are unique to each individual. There is not a “one size fits all.” We all have in common that we are Divine beings, albeit asleep spiritually. In this Divinity we are identical, but in the expression of Divinity, we are completely unique. The end-point of Natural Religion is spiritual awakening, when you realize experientially, not intellectually, that all is one infinite, inseparable, Divine whole. Up until that endpoint, spiritual awakening is a theory, with more or less actual support in the spiritual development of the individual. At worst, the idea of spiritual awakening can be a belief or a disbelief. Why do we need a spiritual awakening? I guess it should be obvious enough that everyone is in a spiritual sleep. Freud revolutionized psychiatry and psychology with the bombshell that everyone is mainly unconscious, the conscious is just the tip of the iceberg. This is a mundane or secular view of the spiritual truth that everyone is spiritually asleep, deeply asleep. All the suffering and destruction that is so evident everywhere is created by our unconsciousness. We need to wake up. Now. What makes you so special you can start the Union of Natural Religion? What makes me special is something different than what makes you special. Every one is uniquely Divine, uniquely special. Everyone is here because the Divine wants us to express our Divinity in our unique way. We are all equally Divine and equally special. Is there a physical church or temple for Natural Religion? The basic temple is your body. The body is the most important temple. Temples or churches where people can gather together are beautiful. But if the real temple (the body) is not loved and respected as the home of the Divine, the outer temples are meaningless. With the inner temple, the outer is unnecessary. Still, it is important for people to gather together and support each other spiritually and lovingly. So the Union of Natural Religion will probably begin setting up something like Transformation Centers. Member donations will go towards creation of the first such center, hopefully soon. It is also possible that existing churches or spiritual communities will proclaim that they are in agreement with the ideas of Natural Religion. Existing communities or churches who would like to exist totally independently as they always have, can join the Union, They can enjoy the benefits of belonging to the Union of Natural Religion. The Union will then be an ever-greater voice for Natural Religion. Most religions claim to be God-fearing. Is your God someone to be feared? Many people trying to lay claim to being spiritual or religious proclaim they are God-fearing, as though God were really Someone to be feared. Those in harmony Natural Religion will probably believe that God is not to be feared. Those who truly comprehend God will understand that fearing God is so absurd, it is laughable. Does Natural Religion believe in evil? Natural Religion is against believing. It is for knowing. There seems to be something like evil, though from the right perspective it is part of the Divine. If anything, either evil is part of the Divine perfection, or part of the Divine imperfection. My favorite theory is that the Whole is Divine and Perfect. The “part” claiming to be separate or different from the Divine Whole is what we call evil. Does Natural Religion have its Commandments? No. Natural Religion is not a theocracy or an autocracy. Natural Religion believes in the same “laws of nature” and “Nature’s God” mentioned in the Declaration of Independence: We feel that freedom is the highest spiritual value; so we want to help people to be free on every level, free to manifest their divinity in their own unique way, asleep or awake. But preferably to wake up. The only commandment is: Wake Up Now. But we understand that “now” may take some time. If you don’t wake up now, it is your responsibility. And what you do in your sleep is your responsibility. But the Union of Natural Religion wants you to wake up now.
