Legal Ramifications of Membership in Natural Religion

Your membership offers you protection for your use of cannabis as a sacrament in your practice of Natural Religion.

Because the Union of Natural Religion and members sincerely believe in the spiritual, religious, sacramental, and healing use of all plants, and because the First Amendment guarantees Religious Freedom, you have a basic constitutional right to use cannabis.   Based on your membership, you can make the First Amendment argument to police officers or in court , should the need arise.

The sincere religious use of sacraments has been strongly upheld.  In a recent 8-0 decision, the Supreme Court ruled that a religious group can use ahuoasca, a Schedule I controlled plant, in the context of their religion. Peyote has been acknowledged and accepted under religious use by the Supreme Court.

When presented correctly, the sincere religious claim of First Amendment rights is frequently being acknowledged at the local level.  (Kudos to Roger Christie and Hawaii Cannabis Ministry and Pastor Jack, Pastor Andy, and the Northern Lights Church.)

The issue of religious use of cannabis is again being litigated currently in Federal court.  We expect that case to win, which would then be a precedence for use of cannabis as a sacrament by members of the Union.  As news of this case becomes available, we'll present it here.

There is no guarantee this argument will win in court today, but we believe in the rightness and constitutionality of what we do in our practice of religion, and hope you will support yourself by joining us.  Join Now.
