William grew up as an atheist in a family of confirmed atheists who socially were members of a very liberal reformed Jewish Temple.  His first inkling of spirituality came from "recreational" use of sacraments, including cannabis, in the late sixties and early seventies.  He ceased the use of cannabis when he first began meditation at the age of 23.  He meditated twice daily for 20 minutes for five years as he learned his profession (medicine).  He also spent 5 days in a meditation retreat on one occasion, and three days on two other.  Then he did a month-long retreat with a Tibetan Buddhist Lama, a monk-teacher.  This prepared him for his principal teacher, an alive (back then) master of meditation, Osho.  William traveled to India, where he spent time in the master's community of international spiritual seekers.  During extended periods with the master, William received a deep education in the history of religion and spirituality, and in the understanding of religion and spirituality, meditation and prayer, now, here.

During the period of his greatest spiritual education, transformation, and growth, William did not use any sacraments or drugs.

William is the author of a book, From Medicine to Mysticism.  This book shows how the ancient teachings of mystics (the developers of religions) are in perfect harmony with 20th and 21st century sciences.
